PEACE Academy

Sewing 1 is a year-long elective class for high school students. Students will learn hand sewing: various stitches and sewing on buttons; types of fabrics and care of each; types of pins and needles used; know your machine, sewing terms and tools; knowing how to use a pattern; basic alterations and repairs; zippers and button holes; sewing increasingly difficult projects; an upcycling project. Students should expect to spend 1-3 hours per week on this course, outside of class time.

This course is open to students in 9th-12th grades.

The course fee is $325 plus a small lab fee (the amount will be determined this summer). A non-refundable $100 deposit is required in order to complete your registration. An early bird discount of $25 will be applied if registration is completed by May 31. Instructions for submitting that payment will be emailed to you after you submit your registration. The balance of the course fee is due by August 13, unless a payment plan has been arranged with the teacher by that date.

Required supplies: a working sewing machine with the appropriate manual, a sewing kit (scissors, needles, thread, bobbins, measuring tape, pins), and as the course progresses patterns and fabric
