Arts Experience at Loyalist

Course Overview: Participants will learn and practice the essential skills involved in carving and finishing these materials, from initial shaping to final polish. The process begins with learning how to look at a stone through a creative lens, using simple drawings to sketch rough forms as a starting point. From there, participants will progress through shaping and refining their carvings and conclude by finishing the work through sanding and polishing. By the end of the course, each participant will take home a completed stone carving. Soapstone is provided.

• Course fee: $445.00 (General) or $410.00 (Senior 55+). HST is not included in the listed price.
• Material fee of $45.00 included in the price.
• This course takes place at the Bancroft Campus: 195 Hastings Street North, Bancroft, ON K0L 1C0
• Campus information, including room number, parking, directions, etc., will be provided closer to the start date.
• A refund (less $20.00 administrative fee) will be issued if you withdraw from a class at least 14 days before the start date of the class. After this deadline, no refunds will be issued.
• If a course is cancelled by Loyalist College, registered students will be provided with a full refund. College decisions to cancel a course will be made 14 days before the course start date.

• Dust masks (N95 work fine)
• Sketchbook and pencils
• Optional if you have it: hand-carving chisels or other carving tools, a mallet, and an old towel
