What is Martyn's Law and Why Does it Matter?
Martyn's Law and The Arts Council for Wales
Martyn's Law is more formerly known as the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025. It will come into effect in 2027 and will impact on certain venues and events where there are likely to be large groups of people. The Arts Council of Wales has recognised that this new legislation will apply to some of its 81 Multi Year Funded organisations.
Recognising that its members need to understand what the legislation requires, The Arts Council of Wales has commissioned a bespoke introduction to what Martyn's Law is and why it matters. This session can be accessed by all member organisations.
About the session
The session will systematically work through the requirements of the law and what it means for members of the Arts Council of Wales.
Who should attend
The session is open to member organisations of the Arts Council of Wales. Attendees who are expected to find this most beneficial are those who may be responsible for:
- Health and safety
- Site security
- Information security
- Facilities management
- Compliance management
Benefits of attending
Each attendee will end the session knowing:
- Whether their premises or event are in scope, and if so, in which tier.
- What legal requirements they will be expected to comply with.
- Where we are still waiting on official guidance and how to stay up to date as that guidance becomes available.
- Where to find government factsheets.
Next steps
On completion of the training, each member organisation will have the opportunity to access a 30 minute consultation to ask any questions about their specific case.
