The Fall Trails Day project is a day-long cooperative trail work opportunity for anyone ages 14 and up. No prior experience is necessary! We will be working along the Brooktrout Lake section of the North Country National Scenic Trail. Work we will be doing includes sidecutting the trail corridor, removing blowdown, clearing drainages, and installing signage. This program is great for anyone who loves the trails in the Adirondacks and wants to give back to them. The project will be led by ADK’s professional crew leaders who will instruct participants on the use of the tools and the process to maintain our backcountry trails. Tools and PPE are provided by ADK. Come prepared to work hard, get your hands dirty, and have fun!

Our tentative itinerary is as follows: We will meet on 9/12/2026 at 8:00 AM, at the Brooktrout Lake Trailhead where we will split into crews and crew leaders will give a brief orientation and overview of the day. Then, we will begin work, stopping for lunch and snack breaks, as needed. We will aim to be finished with the project and out of the woods by 4:30 PM.

While highly rewarding, trail work is also physically and mentally demanding. Participants should be prepared to work in the rain, bugs, and mud! We will work in virtually all weather conditions, as long as it is safe to do so. Non-motorized hand tools will be used to complete the trail projects. We will split into groups based on volunteers' interest in the various tasks, as well as hiking speed. Each group will be hiking between 6 and 10 miles over hilly terrain. While no prior experience is necessary, good physical condition, proper clothing, and proper equipment are a must!

Saturday Night Social:

ADK's Crew Leaders invite you to hang out with us and other volunteers after the work day! Come share some burgers, hot dogs and cold beverages with us at our campsite near the trailhead!

Navigation and Camping:

While the dirt road between the town of Inlet and the Trailhead is well-maintained, low clearance vehicles are not recommended for the drive in. Be aware also that this road is about an hour long drive. Give yourself plenty of time to arrive!

There are numerous free, car-accessible campsites along the dirt road leading to the Brooktrout Trailhead, for folks who would like to camp in the area the night before and/or after.
