As teacher leadership evolves in response to shifting professional expectations, policy uncertainty, and expanded instructional and organizational responsibilities, we are invited to reconsider what it means to be a teacher leader in today’s complex educational landscape. The 2026 ATLAS Conference theme, “Redefining Professionalism: Teacher Leaders Navigating Change,” asks educators, scholars, and practitioners to reflect on how teacher leadership is being reshaped and how professional identity is enacted, protected, and reimagined.

Teacher leaders today are navigating rapid developments in technology, increased demands for evidence-based practice, intensifying pressures around student needs, and ongoing changes in school governance and accountability structures. Amid these complexities, teacher leaders continue to innovate, collaborate, and advocate, often serving as anchors of stability and vision within their schools. This conference seeks to highlight the diverse ways teacher leaders are responding to change with resilience, creativity, and care.

Looking ahead, strengthening teacher professional identity and leadership capacity remains essential to creating adaptable, inclusive, future-ready school systems. We invite participants to consider the multiple faces of professionalism, including, scholarship, instructional expertise, collaboration, advocacy, and relational leadership, and to explore how these elements intersect within a transforming educational environment.
