Comic and Character Creations
Bring your stories to life on the page in this 6-week program that is designed for youth aged 13+.
Explore the creative process that graphic novelists use to develop their work from initial idea to finished pages. Generate ideas, design characters, build worlds, and learn the technical craft of visual storytelling. Whether you’re drawn to slice-of-life comics, fantasy epics, or contemporary dramas, you’ll learn and practice skills and a workflow you can apply to your own projects. Develop stories and character design and comics fundamentals.
By the final session, you’ll have hands-on experience with the graphic novel creation process and practical tools to continue developing your own stories.
About the Instructors, Deanna Kent & Neil Hooson are a Kelowna-based author-illustrator duo creating books, graphic novels, and comics for kids and families. Over 20 years of creative experience including a decade each at The Walt Disney Company. Today, they also create a monthly STEAM-focused comic in Chickadee magazine. Deanna has used her storytelling skills while Neil brings his illustrations character designer for creations such as Amazon Prime’s Pete the Cat. Together, they believe in the power of curiosity, creativity to inspire young creators.

Registration Policy:
Waiver forms: Participants must complete and submit a waiver form.
Consent forms: Participants under 16 require a parent or guardian’s consent to sign in and out RCA programs
Note: Forms will be emailed upon registration and available at the RCA on the first day of the program
