March Instructional Class: Hair Rope

Featuring Guest Instructors: NRG & Leila Rose

Join NRG & Leila to explore the art of decorative and constructive hair rope, designed for all levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners seeking this unique experience and set of skills.

We will begin by understanding hair types, the delicate balance between creative expression and safety considerations tailored to varying hair textures and lengths. Then we’ll show decorative knots and patterns specific to hair rope, making cascading/swirling patterns down the hair.

Here we foster a respectful atmosphere of inclusion and understanding. We'll explore effective ways of handling a spectrum of hair types, and hair lengths (including no hair), ensuring a space where everyone can enjoy this unique experience.

NRG (he/him/any respectful pronouns) is a rope top from Southern California. Their approach to rope is a fusion of intimacy, art, and community. Their rope practice began around 2020, finding curiosity in quarantine. NRG now facilitates workshops on his latest hyperfocus subject. Their approach is to challenge binaries, creatively approach inclusivity, and to encourage joy for all who practice rope.

Together NRG & Leila have over five years of tying and collaborating together. Their focus on community building, curriculum rooted in critical thinking, and inclusive approaches to rope sets them apart as a dynamic force.

Materials/Knowledge needed:

• 1-2 30ft ropes
• knowledge of fundamental ties, single/double/hitches, and lock-off is encouraged but not required

Loaner Rope will be available for those who need it.

All attendees are vetted; if you have not attended an AS event before, we will reach out before the event. We also ask that first-time attendees arrive at 6:00 pm for a rope safety review. Opening circle begins at 6:30pm.

Please note:

• This event is for ages 18+
• The venue is up a set of stairs; please reach out if accessibility is a concern.
• Wear clothing you are comfortable tying in and be advised this is not a sexual space.

7:15- 8:50 pm Instruction & Practice

Refunds and transfers are available with at least 24 hours' notice.

You may transfer your ticket to another event (one transfer per event) or to another vetted attendee. If the person is not yet vetted, they must complete vetting before the event.
