PEACE Academy

This is a year-long introductory studio course in drawing with an emphasis on representation from direct observation. Drawing is fundamentally about learning to see, and transferring that vision onto paper through mark-making techniques. We will learn basic drawing skills as well as explore a variety of drawing materials including graphite, charcoal, and pen. A range of skill levels can be accommodated as the lesson content can be applied at varying degrees of accuracy, speed, and personal style. Homework will be assigned and it is highly encouraged that students complete it, but it is optional.

This course is open to students in 6th-12th grades.

The course fee is $325. Students will also be required to purchase some of their own supplies. A supply list will be made available before class begins. A non-refundable $100 deposit is required in order to complete your registration. An early bird discount of $25 will be applied if registration is completed by May 31. Instructions for submitting that payment will be emailed to you after you submit your registration. The balance of the course fee is due by August 13, unless a payment plan has been arranged with the teacher by that date.

~Demonstrate an understanding of contour line, positive & negative space, perspective, sighting of angles and measurements of relationships in drawing.

~Understand principles of design in establishing composition.

~Master basic skills and encourage experimentation with techniques and materials.

~Explore creative expression.
