3rd Grade English/Language Arts (Tuesday- In person/Thursday- Virtual)
3rd Grade English/Literature Arts $400 + $25 Supply Fee
The 3rd Grade English/Language Arts class is designed to give children a strong foundation in reading, spelling, writing, and grammar structure. With the Shurley Grammar curriculum, students learn foundational grammar skills as they learn how to identify and apply different parts of speech, as well as build their vocabulary. Additionally, students will be introduced to various writing genres including expository, descriptive, persuasive, and narrative. In 3rd grade, students are introduced to the Excellence in Writing program techniques, which are designed to enhance both the style and structure of writing to help them become more developed and expressive writers. Throughout the year, as students work on various writing pieces, they will progress through the writing process in order to practice organizing, drafting, editing and revising, and finalizing their writing assignments.
Grade-appropriate spelling words and tests are given weekly and can be easily catered to each individual student’s needs. Additionally, the students will explore various genres of literature. Through the different literature pieces offered, students will build stronger comprehension and fluency, as well as make real-world connections, leading to stronger responses to text. At the completion of each literary work, students will have a chance to display their knowledge through a literature project.
