4th Grade English/Language Arts (Tuesday- In person/Thursday- Virtual)
4th Grade English/Language Arts $400 + $25 Supply Fee
The 4th Grade English/Language Arts class is designed to build on the foundations in reading, spelling, writing and grammar structure from 3rd grade. With the Shurley Grammar curriculum, students deepen their grammar skills as they continue to identify and apply different parts of speech, as well as build their vocabulary. Additionally, students will explore various writing genres, including expository, descriptive, persuasive, and narrative. In 4th grade, students continue to learn and implement the Excellence in Writing program techniques, which are designed to enhance both the style and structure of writing to help them become more developed and expressive writers. Throughout the year, as students work on various writing pieces, they will progress through the writing process in order to practice organizing, drafting, editing and revising, and finalizing their writing assignments.
Grade-appropriate spelling words and tests are given weekly and can be easily catered to each individual student’s needs. Additionally, the students will explore various genres of literature. Through the different literature pieces offered, students will build stronger comprehension and fluency, as well as make real-world connections, leading to stronger responses to text. At the completion of each literary work, students will have a chance to display their knowledge through a literature project.
If your student is new to Shurley Grammar, it is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that your student participate in Mrs. Kang's summer Shurley Grammar prep class prior to the start of this class in the fall. Also, please purchase the teacher’s guide for home use and extra support.
