Strategic Literary Submissions | Led by Ashaki M. Jackson
Submitting literary work for publication requires courage and skill. Despite the intimidation of submitting work, writers who approach the process with a deep understanding of the pieces they have to offer, knowledge of the literary landscape, organization, and flexibility have a better chance of seeing their work in print.
During this two-session course, we will answer tough questions about our writing and identify the publications in which the work might fit comfortably; carve poetry and prose manuscripts to fit submission guidelines and organize submission materials; submit, track, and discuss rules of engagement with editors. The course will also cover special topics like budgeting, compensation, and prize nominations. Participants will enrich the course with their questions and experiences.
Through dialogue, parallel work, and read arounds we will better understand the submission process and its utility. The course will culminate in one complete submission and materials for your future practice. Together, we will build the tools needed to submit confidently.
