Make it a summer of love and learning with award-winning poet and professor Douglas Manuel. Over three online sessions, you’ll explore the vast subject of love poetry—from longing and love to heartbreak and loss.

Welcoming to poets of all levels, the workshop will include close readings and discussion of writing by poets such as Rachel McKibbens, Kevin Young, Sharon Olds, Robert Hass, Sonia Sanchez, and Federico García Lorca, as well as exercises designed to ground and orient your writing.

Together, you’ll identify craft points to help you conjure effective and emotive—not cringey or corny—poems that speak the full volume of your feeling, without falling victim to cliché or easy construction.
