Tue 09:00 - 10:00 --NEW 925TA Artificial Intelligence - Boom or Doom?

This non-technical course explores the societal implications of artificial intelligence. Together, we will examine current events and news surrounding AI, delving into both its transformative potential for good and the significant risks it poses to society. Discussions will cover the ethical dilemmas, societal biases, and economic disruptions associated with AI advancements as well as the emerging landscape of public policy now being developed in an effort to address these challenges. The course is designed to inform and to encourage discussion with the group, aiming to foster critical thinking about the future of AI and its impact on individuals - and to have a little fun along the way. About the instructor: Deb Bryant‘s experience spans thirty years of leadership in the high tech industry, academia and government, where she is consistently the least technical person in any discussion. She presently serves as an independent public policy consultant to non-profit software foundations, working with US government and European institutions on matters of Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Security. She is a founding member of Carnegie Melon University’s Open Forum for AI.
