Tues 10:00 - 11:00 -- NEW 390TB Reconciling Science and Religion, Part 2
As a sequel to a 2019 and 2024 SAIL course, we will discuss the relationship between Judeo-Christian religion and modern science, especially concerning the origin of life, evolution, and the human mind. We’ll hear from prominent scientists and other scholars, some of whom are devout Christians, and will try to show common ground between religious beliefs and scientific discoveries. Each session will consist of a 20-to-30-minute video lecture supplemented by instructor comments and handouts. Suggested textbook: The Language of God, by Francis S. Collins, MD Ph.D. (NY, Free Press, 2007, available used online and as an e-book.) This course will be taught by Rabbi Sanford (Sandy) Olshansky and is based partly on a 14-week online course he taught at the University of Central Florida (UCF) in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024.
