This training will provide a detailed understanding of the principles and practices of Harm Reduction that have guided the services and culture of Rebel Recovery since 2015.
Develop an understanding of the multiple dimensions of Harm Reduction as it relates to:
- A set of commonsense strategies and interventions to reduce harms associated with risky behaviors
- An approach to our work with participants that informs our interactions with them and the lens through which we view them.
- A social movement, rooted in social justice, that acknowledges the disparities of the impacts of drug use, drug policy, and the “War on Drugs”.
Participants of this training will:
- Learn to apply the definitions, principles, and reasons for harm reduction in their work with participants.
- Gain an understanding of common-sense practices to better support marginalized and underserved populations
- Practice the application of harm reduction strategies and interventions in specific scenarios.
- Participate in discussions surrounding the issues of drug use, drug policy, and the role that cultural/societal norms and perceptions play in perpetuating harm and stigma towards people who use drugs.
