Beginner Wheel Pottery with Paul Sirofchuck

7 Thursdays | March 26, April 9, 16, 23, 30, May 7 & 14 | 5:30 - 8 PM

(No Class April 2)

*NOTE: This is a 7-week course, however, if you need to miss a class, we will do our best to accommodate you with a make up class in one of our Open Studios sessions.

Weeks 1-5
Instructor Paul Sirofchuck will teach you the basics of centering on the wheel and cover beginner throwing and trimming techniques. You'll explore ceramic forms as you make cups, bowls, small plates & other vessels, alter thrown pieces, and make & attach handles to mugs or pots. (Please note that this is a "wheel only" course. If you are looking to hand-build, check out our other offerings!) This class is also perfect if you've already taken a wheel pottery class (here or elsewhere) but would like to review and expand your beginner techniques.
Week 6
After the 5th wheel session, you will have a 6th session to finish up work from previous sessions to prep for a bisque-firing (first firing) in our kiln. During this session, Mandy Sirofchuck will also instruct on the glazing process that will occur in the 7th session. As a group, you will select the glazes to be used in week 7.
Week 7
The 7th session will consist of glazing bisqued pieces. They'll then be fired and ready for pickup, typically in about 2 weeks!

Included with your Tuition:

  • The use of all clay tools
  • One bisque firing
  • One glaze firing
  • 25 lbs of clay. (Additional clay may be purchased for $30 for 25 lbs. (which covers additional glazing and kiln firing.) Due to kiln risks, no outside clay permitted unless from a previous class at Main Exhibit Gallery & Art Center. Leftover clay should be taken home for private use or if you sign up for open studio sessions.
  • Cone 4-6 dipping glazes from Standard Ceramics. (You may use your own Cone 4-6 paint on glazes if you have prior experience using them. Cookies required for all outside glazes to protect our kiln shelves)
  • High level of personalized attention from your instructor.

Please Note:

  • Tuition is due with registration unless other arrangements are made. If you cancel 0-7 days before the class start date, we are able to refund your tuition ONLY if we can fill your space from our waitlist. We are not able to issue partial refunds or transfer your registration to another class. We apologize for any inconvenience, but we cannot under ANY circumstances refund your tuition once you have started the classes.
  • Pottery is messy! Bring an apron or wear work clothes and shoes that can get dirty with clay/paint/etc.
  • Bring a hair tie if you have long hair.
  • Leave your rings, smartwatches, and jewelry at home. Main Exhibit Gallery & Art Center is not responsible for lost or damaged personal items.
  • We ask that you pick up your pots within 2 weeks of your notification that they're ready. We have so many classes that our space can get quite full with students' work! Any pots left behind after 2 weeks without prior arrangements will be added to our "Adopt a Pot" shelf in our main gallery space.
  • This is a wheel-only course. If you're interested in working with clay slabs or hand-building, check our our other options in ceramics!

Thank you for registering!
