Trail Steward Training Day #4
This training day is geared toward new volunteer Trail Stewards. Throughout the day we will be going over the requirements of the Trail Steward position. This includes:
- blowdown removal
- drainage clearing
- sidecutting
- trail marker placement
The exact meeting location is still TBD but barring too much lingering snow cover on the trails, we will be somewhere in the Lake Placid area. I will reach out to folks a week in advance of the training day with our exact meeting location. If snow cover seems like it might be an issue, we will likely move farther south, in which case I will reach out at least two weeks in advance with the new location.
Participants should be prepared to work in the rain, bugs, cold and mud! We will be hiking a total of up to 6 miles, carrying tools with us, and working along the way.
Please bring water, lunch, snacks, a good pair of hiking boots and a backpack with at least 30-liter capacity. Tools will be provided, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own hand tools (handsaws, loppers, hazel hoes, axes).
Lodging
For those needing a place to stay the night before and/or after, campsites at the Heart Lake Wilderness Campground will be available free of charge to volunteers.
*ADK cannot guarantee a time the project will be finished.
