Wildlife Field Techniques

Strong research depends on strong data. In wildlife science, field data comes in many forms—tracks in the dirt, signals from a radio collar, a hidden camera’s snapshot of an elusive predator. Collecting this information requires sharp observation, hands-on skills, and the ability to interpret what nature reveals. Field technicians are the backbone of wildlife research, bridging the gap between the field and the data that drives conservation.

The Wildlife Field Techniques course is designed to equip participants with essential skills used in mammalian wildlife research, including:

  • Accurately collecting and recording field data
  • Deploying and monitoring remote cameras
  • Using radio (VHF) telemetry to track wildlife
  • Interpreting animal tracks and signs
  • Conducting wildlife field necropsies
  • Collecting biological samples for analysis
  • Investigating mortality sites

This course is ideal for those new to fieldwork, as well as anyone looking to refine or expand their existing skills. Whether you're pursuing a career in wildlife research or simply eager to develop hands-on field techniques, this course provides practical, real-world experience. Open to adults (18+) of all skill levels, this is your chance to step into the role of a wildlife field technician and learn how to turn observations into impactful data.
