Rising Debater: Introduction to Congress (4th-5th)
In this engaging and interactive summer camp, students step into the role of lawmakers as they propose, debate, and vote on legislation—just like members of Congress. Campers work together to research important issues, draft their own bills, and participate in structured debates where they defend their ideas and respond to opposing viewpoints.
Through collaborative activities and guided discussions, students learn how laws are created, how debate works in government, and how leaders communicate their ideas to persuade others. Campers also practice public speaking, teamwork, and respectful debate while exploring real-world issues.
How it Applies to the Real World: This camp develops leadership, critical thinking, and persuasive communication skills while helping students better understand civic engagement and how government decisions affect society.
Deliverable: At the end of the camp, students will participate in a in class showcase where they will receive feedback and a certificate of completion to illustrate their learning.
Prerequisite: None
Recommended Next Steps: Additional Rising Debater camps, Art of Public Speaking class, or Introductory Debate class.
