Rising Debater: Introduction to Lincoln Douglas (6th-8th)

In this engaging camp, students will be introduced to the foundations of Lincoln-Douglas (LD) debate, a format focused on discussing important values, ethics, and philosophical ideas. Campers will learn how to analyze debate resolutions, develop clear arguments, and support their positions with logical reasoning and evidence.

Throughout the camp, students will explore the structure of an LD debate, including how to build a case, present arguments, and respond to opposing viewpoints. Coaches will guide campers through the process of organizing their ideas, developing persuasive speaking techniques, and learning how to think critically about complex issues. Students will participate in practice rounds where they can apply what they learn in a supportive and collaborative environment.

In addition to debate fundamentals, campers will learn how to structure speeches, ask effective questions during cross-examination, and deliver arguments with clarity and confidence.

How it Applies to the Real World: Lincoln-Douglas Debate aims to foster critical thinking, communication skills, research and the ability to construct persuasive arguments.

Deliverable: At the end of the camp, students will participate in a practice debate showcase where they will present their arguments, receive personalized feedback from coaches, and earn a certificate of completion recognizing their growth as rising debaters.
