Continuing Mold Making & Slip Casting with Christian Dinh

NOTE: The rate for this class is slightly higher than our other classes due to increased material costs and more class hours (3 per week instead of 2.5)

Building on the skills developed in our Intro to Mold-Making and Slip-Casting course, this class focuses on creating two-part plaster molds for slip-casting. Two-part molds enable the casting of more complex and larger forms that one-part molds can't accommodate. You'll learn techniques for constructing two-part molds from both found objects and leather-hard clay pieces.

Course Objectives

  • Construct a two-part plaster mold from found objects (e.g., plastic bowls, cups)
  • Create a two-part plaster mold from leather-hard clay forms
  • Understand how to align, register, and secure two-part molds for successful casting
