Advanced Pistol Class
The Advanced Pistol class is intended for students looking to push their pistol skills beyond the basics through focused, intentional training. Advanced Pistol introduces drawing from the holster, engaging multiple targets, engaging from extended distances, and shooting rapidly with time constraints. This class is designed for students who can safely and comfortably handle their firearm at all times and have a basic competency with the basics of marksmanship. If you want to learn the basics of firearm safety, how to handle a pistol, or need an introduction to marksmanship, then you want to look at our Intro to Pistols or CCW classes.
As with all 6:11 Defense classes, slots are limited to ensure a safe environment and personal, one-on-one instruction.
During the class, students will:
- Develop their draw stroke from the holster,
- Explore trigger control at speed,
- Experiment with grip variations,
- Develop recoil management,
- Learn to track their sights throughout a shot string,
- Engage targets rapidly and accurately from close distances,
- Engage targets accurately and timely from extended distances, and
- Learn to transition between targets.
Students will also shoot various drills and qualifications that will help them quantify their abilities and identify skills they want to work on. In addition to the live-fire portion of the class, students will also learn dry-fire drills and techniques they can use on and off the range to accelerate their skills development.
This class is held at a private range near Jackson, MO. The address will be emailed to you once you have registered.
Course Length:
- 6 hours (8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.)
- Bring snacks and drinks
Course Prerequisites:
- Students must be very solid with their firearm safety, including while drawing, reholstering, moving, transitioning targets, and reloading.
- Students will get the most out of the class if they have a general understanding of the fundamentals of shooting, such that they can consistently hit an 8-inch circle from 7 yards. This level of ability isn't mandatory (as long as you are safe), but this class does not focus on introducing students to the fundamentals of marksmanship. If you're not able to consistently hit an 8-inch circle from 7 yards, you probably should start with the Intro to Pistols or CCW classes.
