Middle School General Science

Curriculum: Exploring Creation with General Science by Apologia Publishing
Grades: 7–8 (advanced 6th graders welcome)
Format: Weekly in-person lab + guided discussion with structured at-home assignments
Prerequisite: Solid reading comprehension and basic math skills

This engaging, middle school science course follows Exploring Creation with General Science from Apologia Publishing. Designed as a foundational course for middle school students, it introduces key scientific concepts while developing strong analytical thinking and study skills.

Throughout the year, students will explore topics such as:

  • The scientific method and designing experiments
  • Scientific measurement and data analysis
  • The history of science and scientific inquiry
  • Earth science (atmosphere, hydrosphere, geology)
  • Environmental science and ecosystems
  • Chemistry basics (atoms, molecules, elements)
  • Physics foundations (motion, energy, Newton’s laws)
  • Life science survey topics
  • Astronomy

During our weekly meetings, students will:

  • Participate in hands-on laboratory experiments and demonstrations
  • Practice proper lab safety and technique
  • Discuss key concepts from the assigned reading
  • Work through challenging review questions
  • Develop scientific writing and critical thinking skills

Students will complete assigned reading, study questions, and tests at home with parent oversight. The weekly class is designed to support comprehension, reinforce difficult concepts, and provide the laboratory experience that strengthens understanding.

This course provides an excellent foundation for future high school biology, chemistry, and physics courses.
