Chemistry (9th-12th)
Give your student the confidence to succeed in one of high school’s most important science courses! This engaging chemistry class uses Chemistry by Master Books to present complex concepts in a clear, approachable way—without sacrificing academic rigor.
In a supportive, small-group environment, students will meet once a week for interactive instruction that breaks down challenging topics into manageable, easy-to-understand steps.
Class time is designed to reinforce learning through guided practice, demonstrations, and hands-on labs, helping students truly grasp the “why” behind the science—not just memorize formulas. At home, students will complete structured assignments that build independence and strengthen problem-solving skills, preparing them for future science courses and beyond.
Parents can feel confident knowing their student is receiving a thorough, Christ-centered science education that emphasizes both critical thinking and real-world application. Whether your student feels intimidated by chemistry or is excited to dive in, this course is designed to equip them for success.
Topics of Study Include:
- Atomic structure
- The periodic table
- Chemical bonding
- Chemical reactions
- Stoichiometry
- States of matter and gases
- Thermochemistry
- Acids and bases
- Solutions and mixtures
During our weekly meetings, students will:
- Participate in hands-on laboratory experiments and demonstrations
- Practice proper lab safety and technique
- Discuss key concepts from the assigned reading
- Work through challenging review questions
- Develop scientific writing and critical thinking skills through written lab reports
Required Materials:
- Chemistry (Teacher Guide and Student Textbook) by Master Books
- Student notebook or 3-ring binder (for notes, handouts, and labs)
- Loose-leaf paper
- Scientific calculator (basic models are sufficient)
- Pencils and erasers
- Colored pencils or highlighters (for notes and diagrams)
This class is ideal for high school students who need Chemistry as a lab science for high school graduation, but do not need or desire honors Chemistry or a dual-enrollment experience.
