Country Guitar 101: Mastering the Nashville Number System
This beginner-friendly class introduces guitarists to the fundamentals of country music through the Nashville Number System—the universal language of modern country and session playing. Designed for players who know basic chords and strumming, this course uses the songs of outlaw and classic country legends like George Jones, Emmylou Harris,Hank Williams, and Merle Haggard to teach both the system and the sound.
Throughout the class, the instructor will break down the defining style of country guitar, including walking bass lines while strumming, classic country strumming patterns, and simple but effective runs that help drive a song home. Students will learn how to recognize common country progressions, translate chord charts into numbers, and apply the Nashville Number System to real songs in a practical, hands-on way.
By the end of this 4-week session, students will have a handful of new country songs in their repertoire, a solid understanding of what the Nashville Numbers are and how to use them, and the confidence to jump into a country jam just about anywhere—whether it’s a living room, honky-tonk, or pick-up session with other musicians.
