Babysitter’s Training with  Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED, American Red Cross®

Overview

This in-person course prepares youth ages 11-16 to safely and confidently care for children and infants. It includes hands-on activities videos and discussions to develop essential real-life readiness babysitting skills. The course covers feeding diapering picking up and holding children safety and emergency response. Participants receive a 10-year Babysitter's Training certificate upon completion.

This course also includes a certification in Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED which is delivered in a blended-learning format. Students will be required to complete an online course prior to the first day of the course, which takes on average 2 hours and 45 minutes. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Pediatric FA/CPR/AED certificate valid for 2 years.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, learners will be able to:

  1. How to be an effective leader
  2. How to start a babysitting business and find work
  3. How to keep everyone safe
  4. How to provide basic child care for children and infants
  5. How to perform basic child care skills (e.g., picking up and holding, bottle-feeding, spoon-feeding and diapering)
  6. How to choose age-appropriate activities
  7. How to recognize and handle a variety of behavior challenges
  8. How to take the emergency action steps: CHECK—CALL—CARE
  9. How to recognize and respond to choking emergencies
  10. How to perform abdominal thrusts and back blows/chest thrusts for children and infants
  11. How to recognize and respond to bleeding emergencies
  12. How to apply direct pressure to control external life-threatening bleeding
