Heart Lake Program Center, 1002 Adirondack Loj Road, Lake Placid, NY Map
Join ADK naturalists on a "herping" adventure: a toadally cool, ribbiting walk to see what reptiles and amphibians, or "herps" call the Heart Lake Program Center home. Explore the exciting world of herpetology, the study of reptiles and amphibians. Before we set out on our walk, there will be a presentation on how to identify common species, what threats they face, and other fun facts! Whether you're newt to herping or an experienced herper, we're sure you'll have fun exploring with us! Please note that our success finding amphibians outside is not guaranteed, as they might not be active, and they are very good at hiding- but that’s part of the fun!
Participants should come prepared with appropriate clothing (including rain gear and shoes that can get muddy), bug protection, a headlamp or flashlight, and water. We will meet at the Heart Lake Amphitheatre.
This program is open to all ages, but children must be supervised. The program will run rain or shine. In the event of rain, your instructor will reach out to you with an alternative meeting location on property.
The Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) welcomes people of all backgrounds and is committed to fostering a safe space for everyone to learn.
Note: Registration, while not mandatory, is highly encouraged to enable the instructor to best prepare.
