Moth Madness: An Educational Moth Lighting Program

Moths: the lesser seen relatives of butterflies. But did you know that moth species outnumber butterfly species 6:1?

Join an ADK Naturalist for an educational evening moth program at the Heart Lake Amphitheatre. We will begin with a presentation on the differences between moths and butterflies, the ecological importance of moths, and other fun facts. Then we will observe some of our local moths by using a light "trap" to humanely attract active moths and other insects. We will also have a small, preserved local moth collection for reference and a closer look. Participants are encouraged to add their photographic observations digitally to iNaturalist to engage in community science and add to local data on moths.

This program is suitable for all ages, but children must be supervised. In the event of rain, this program will be postponed to the following evening, June 27th.
The Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) welcomes people of all backgrounds and is committed to fostering a safe space for everyone to learn.
Note: Registration, while not mandatory, is highly encouraged to enable the instructor to best prepare.
