Join Us at the Resolute Response Medical Group’s Foundations in Blood Training Course!

Target Audience:

The prehospital medical first responder, from emergency medical technicians up to paramedic transport units, as well as military providers and system leaders, seeking best practices.

Introduction:

The SMS Blood Course prepares military & EMS providers with the core science and practice of bleeding control, shock physiology and management, and prehospital blood resuscitation.

Course highlights

  • Format: Online pre-work followed by one day of in-person classroom instruction, practical labs, medical skill proficiency, and case-based application.
  • Core content: Bleeding control techniques (wound packing, tourniquets), tourniquet conversion/removal, shock recognition and management, administration and logistics of whole blood and blood products, and evidence-based best practices bridging military and civilian standards.
  • Instructors: Subject-matter experts and active EMS Medical Directors (Lead Course Directors: Drs. Sean Keenan and Jamie Riesberg).
  • Optional/advanced modules: Walking Blood Bank (for military/remote systems) and Blood System Essentials (in development) for supervisors and program leads.
  • Outcomes: Improved resuscitative care for critically bleeding patients in austere and prehospital environments.

Course Logistics:  

  • Capacity: Limited enrollment of up to 16 students to ensure hands-on training.
  • Prerequisites: Current EMS certification; completion of online pre-work required.
  • Most supplies are provided.
  • Lodging and meals are the student’s responsibility.
