A Tribute to the Life and Work of Liz Heath
A TRIBUTE TO THE WORK & LIFE OF LIZ HEATH
Friday, May 8, 1PM Pacific
You are cordially invited to participate in a celebration of our colleague, Liz Heath, who passed away on February 1, 2026. This online program will honor the contributions of Liz to the Tacoma community and the entire nonprofit sector. You are welcome to write a tribute to Liz in the chat box or volunteer to say a few words. The program will be officiated by Frank Hagel, former CEO of United Way of Pierce County and is being co-hosted by Jeffrey Wilcox on behalf of Third Sector Company and Greg Scully on behalf of 501 Commons. Tribute gifts can be made in her honor to the Nonprofit Leaders Conference for Coastal and Southwest Washington to help establish a memorial scholarship fund to eliminate economic barriers for individuals and organizations to participate in a program that Liz helped to found.
Here is additional information about our colleague:
Elizabeth Morgan Heath was born in Marquette, Michigan, on May 6, 1940. She died on February 1, 2026, in Tacoma, Washington where she grew up. She attended Annie Wright School and graduated from Stadium High School in 1958. Deciding she should find out more about the Midwest where she was born, she attended and graduated from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. After living in Boston for a year, she returned to Tacoma and Seattle for five years before moving to Eugene, Oregon. She and her husband, Stephen J. Heath, adopted their daughter, Emily, who was just three days old. Circumstances changed their lives, and she and Emily moved back to Tacoma where they have lived ever since. Liz became a leader in the nonprofit sector including founding and leading The Nonprofit Center for twelve years. She continued to work in the nonprofit sector the rest of her life; focused on improving ways the community responds to those in need. Liz was very active in the Alliance for Nonprofit Management and served on the board of the Nonprofit Leaders Conference for Coastal and Southwest Washington. She served as Interim Executive Director of numerous nonprofit organizations, was an executive committee member of Pierce County Human Services Coalition, and active in Rotary. Liz is survived by Emily and Alan Russell and their son Charlie.
