Hand Appliqué, from Tiny to Humongous with Heidi Parkes
This class invites you to celebrate your most beautiful fabrics with HUMONGOUS swaths of hand appliqué and allows you to redeem even the ugliest prints with teeny tiny appliqué. Heidi will share her unique approach to visible hand sewing, and students in this class will create a quilt top! Scale can range from about 20 inches to 7 feet, depending on each maker's desired outcome.
We will use embroidery hoops, thimbles, an iron, safety pins, and straight pins as we work together on composition, color, and concept. Heidi will bring quilts to look at, will share video tutorials in advance of class, and will sew on a quilt alongside students as we enjoy the week together. Portability and efficiency are key benefits that come with handwork, and this class will highlight ways to maximize both!
Heidi's quilting style is known for personal storytelling and diary, and she'll share many ways to optionally include that throughout the class. On our final day together, Heidi will demo hand quilting so that participants can complete their quilts after class.
Students will receive substantial pre-recorded instruction from Heidi one month before class begins; practicing your sewing in advance will allow us to focus on
composition and the unique direction of each student’s quilt.
Come ready to play, sew, and make the most of your fabric stash.
