I started learning Compassionate Communication (NVC) because I wanted to learn how to parent my four kids differently. I had a vision of being consistently patient and understanding and judged myself for falling short of that expectation. It was an awful feeling. While I read many parenting books and picked up some useful ideas, I didn’t get the clarity I was hoping for (and some approaches didn’t fit with my values). I was at a loss, until I came across Dr. Marshall Rosenberg’s work. As I began to practice, my family became closer and I felt much more inner peace.

Do you want to solve some recurring issues once and for all? If so, I invite you to join me in this 6-hour Foundations Course in parenting using Rosenberg’s work. You will be introduced to ways to:

• Talk frankly and kindly with your kids
• Listen in ways that invite them to open up to you
• Find constructive solutions that have buy-in
• Feel calmer and more confident in your parenting

This is not a class about tactics that work in one or two specific situations. This is a fundamental way of being that works in any discussion or conflict at home or at work.

Through examples, theory, and practice with parenting as its focus, we’ll cover the basics of the Compassionate Communication model: Observations, Feelings, Needs, and Requests and the intention to connect.

Activities will include discussions, modeling, roleplaying, small group practice, empathy practice, and personal reflection.
