Class Description
Ever wanted to turn an idea into something you can hold in your hands? 3D printing lets you go from concept to physical prototype in hours. This process used to require expensive tooling and weeks of waiting. This is how modern inventors bring their ideas to life.
In this course, students will learn the fundamentals of 3D modeling using Autodesk Fusion, industry-standard CAD software used by engineers, product designers, and inventors worldwide. Starting with core skills like sketches, extrusions, and revolves, students will progressively tackle more complex techniques including multi-body design, lofts, sweeps, and parts that snap or screw together.
Students will learn to use calipers to measure real-world objects and design parts that fit precisely. This is a critical skill for any inventor creating functional prototypes. The course covers both plastic (FDM) and resin (SLA) printing methods, with hands-on experience in OrcaSlicer and Lychee Slicer to prepare designs for each printing process.
Throughout the year, students will complete multiple printed projects of increasing complexity, culminating in a final invention of their own design. Mr. J will print student milestone projects so they can experience the full journey from concept to physical object.
Whether your student dreams of becoming an inventor, engineer, product designer, or just loves making cool things, this class builds foundational skills they’ll use for years to come.
No prior CAD experience required.
