Class Description
Join our exciting makerspace class where you’ll become an engineer, inventor, artist, and explorer all in one! Designed especially for 4th-6th graders, this hands-on class lets you dive into creative building, problem-solving, and basic tech using some of the coolest STEM toys around. What You’ll Explore & Create: • Build towering structures, bridges, and geometric masterpieces with Magna-Tiles (magnetic building tiles that snap together magically) and KEVA Planks (smooth wooden planks for gravity-defying, no-fastener constructions). • Guide tiny robotic critters through obstacle courses with Hexbug Nano Bugs (vibrating micro-robots that scurry like real insects). • Program and code your own robot buddy using Edison Robots (fun, affordable bots that follow lines, avoid objects, and respond to light and sound). • Experiment with electricity and circuits by snapping together lights, motors, alarms, and more with Snap Circuits (no tools needed—just click pieces to create real working projects!). Big Project Highlights: • Design and construct a challenging paper-folding structure maze—fold, cut, and assemble paper into 3D paths and tunnels, then test a Hexbug to navigate your creation (perfect for practicing precision and spatial thinking!). • Create detailed fantasy maps through mapmaking activities, combining drawing, measurement, and storytelling to design imaginary worlds. • Build cozy, whimsical Hobbit holes from cardboard—transform recycled boxes into rounded doorways, grassy hills, and underground homes inspired by Bilbo Baggins (add details like windows, paths, and tiny landscapes for extra magic!). Throughout the class, you’ll work solo and in teams, test your ideas, troubleshoot problems, and celebrate epic builds. Expect lots of creativity, laughter, and “aha!” moments as you blend art, engineering, science, and a touch of fantasy. No prior experience needed—just bring your curiosity and ready hands! All materials provided. Perfect for young makers who love to build, invent, and imagine
