Fall Outing Hike: Baker Mountain
Baker Mountain is part of the Saranac Lake 6er Hiking Challenge. We’ll first walk 1 mile from Berkeley Green to the official trailhead. The trail itself is 3.2 miles roundtrip, and passes through forest with mostly red pines and some occasional views as you ascend.
The trail splits mid-way. To the left it takes a more gradual route to the top, and the trail to the right is steeper, but provides some nice ledges for scrambling and great viewpoints along the way. Both trails rejoin on a ledge just below the summit. When you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with a beautiful view of Lower Saranac Lake, Lake Flower, the Village of Saranac Lake, and the High Peaks to the south and southeast.
Meeting place: Berkeley Green in Saranac Lake, at the “6er Bell” (8 Broadway, at the intersection of Broadway and Main streets)
Trip rating: B (Moderate)
Trip distance: 5.2 miles roundtrip; 884’ elevation gain
Maximum group size: 15
