This camp is open to all enrolled students who just completed 7th or 8th grade at a San Diego Unified School District school. A valid student ID number is required for final enrollment.

About this Camp:

Have you ever wondered how a stage lights up, how a costume transforms a character, or how sound effects make a story come alive? The Mobile Tech Theatre Program from La Jolla Playhouse brings the behind-the-scenes magic of theatre right to your school! In this hands-on workshop, students get to explore the exciting world of technical theatre by trying out real tools and creative challenges.

You might design a costume, create sound effects, build props, experiment with stage lighting, or help design a mini set. Along the way, you’ll discover how a whole team of creative people works together to bring a story to life on stage. No experience needed—just curiosity and imagination! The Mobile Tech Theatre program invites students to experiment, collaborate, and discover that theatre isn’t just what happens on stage—it’s everything that happens behind it too.

This is a program where students will be working with a variety of technology, tools and equipment in a structured, safety - conscious environment. While all students are welcome to sign up, please note that the activities require fine motor skills, attention to details and ability to follow directions. If you are unsure in your student's ability to safely and comfortably engage in this type of detailed handiwork, please contact us in advance so we can help determine whether this camp will be a good fit or discuss possible accommodations.
Schedule:
This 1-week camp runs every weekday Monday through Friday from June 8th to June 12th.
Student check in will be from 8:30am-9:00am, and student dismissal/pick up will be at 11:30am.
Camp instruction will be from 9:00am-11:30 am.

This camp is a collaboration of VAPA Foundation, La Jolla Playhouse, and SDUSD.
