Fall Outing Paddle: Turtle and Slang Ponds

Fri, Sep 18, 2026, 1:00 – 6:00 PM EDT

This is an out and back paddle. We will cross Hoel Pond and carry the canoes over the new Rail Trail into Turtle Pond. A narrow channel will take us into Slang Pond. The channel is often shallow and it may be necessary to step out of the canoes and walk them for 50' or so depending on water levels and beaver activity. The channel bottom is sandy and firm. A quick stretch.

In Slang Pond, we will look for an empty campsite for lunch. If there is time and interest, we may do an additional short carry into Long Pond or explore the northern bay of Hoel Pond before returning to the cars at the end of the day.

Meeting place: State Boat Launch at Hoel Pond
Trip rating: C (Easy)
Trip distance: 5–6 miles; 1 portage of 75' up and over the Rail Trail
Maximum group size: 8

We cannot guarantee a time this trip will finish.
