Fall Outing Hike: Algonquin Peak (Sat #1)
We will meet on campus and carpool to the trailhead at the Adirondak Loj, with an estimated start-of-hiking time of 8:30 a.m. At 5114 feet, Algonquin is the second highest mountain in New York State.
The trail is mostly easy for the first 1.5 miles and moderate for the next 1.1 mile before steepening for another 0.7 miles to the trail junction to Wright. From here our ascent is relatively steep for 0.5 mile to timberline with a final 0.3 mile steep ascent to the summit. There are some scrambles up steep rock surfaces that require careful balance and good footing.
