Ampersand Mountain is part of the Saranac 6er Hiking Challenge. The trail is gently rolling through tall hemlocks for the first 1.2 miles, followed by a steady climb to the site of the former observer's cabin at 1.7 miles. The trail becomes noticeably steeper to the summit, with a few short scrambles over steep sections. The open summit offers beautiful views of the surrounding lakes and summits.
