Defensive Pistol-Craft Class
The Defensive Pistol-Craft class fuses pistol shooting skills with real-world defensive tactics to create a class that doesn't just teach you how to shoot, but how to win a defensive incident. This class is designed for students of all different skill levels, not just advanced shooters. Everyone needs to know how to apply whatever pistol skills they have to real-world problems. This class helps you see what skills you need to work on, while teaching you how to problem-solve with a gun in your hand. Having said that, this is not an introductory class: you should be able to safely handle your pistol at all times, even while moving, reloading, holstering, etc. A solid understanding of the fundamentals of shooting is helpful, but as long as you're safe with a pistol, you're welcome in the class.
If you're brand new to pistols and want to learn the basics of firearm safety, how to handle a pistol, or need an introduction to marksmanship, then you want to check out our Intro to Pistols class. If you're looking for a class focused solely on developing your shooting skills, then our Advanced Pistol Class is for you.
As with all 6:11 Defense classes, slots are limited to ensure a safe environment and personal, one-on-one instruction.
During the class, students will:
- Learn multiple techniques for drawing from concealment,
- Practice getting quick, accurate first shots on target from concealment,
- Develop one-handed shooting techniques for both strong and support hand,
- Learn how to effectively use cover and concealment,
- Learn to move safely and aggressively with a pistol in hand,
- Engage targets while moving,
- Engage multiple targets,
- Explore shooting techniques for extreme close quarters,
- Build shooting techniques for longer range engagements,
- Learn at what distances someone can be a lethal threat,
- Learn to address the most common pistol malfunctions,
- Develop techniques for efficient reloads,
- Explore methods for moving through crowds without muzzling innocent people,
- Work from multiple ready positions, and learn when each one is useful,
- Study the most effective locations to place shots to stop an attack, and
- Learn the effects of cognitive load on your performance.
Students will also shoot various drills and qualifications that will help them quantify their abilities and identify skills they want to work on. In addition to the live-fire portion of the class, students will also learn dry-fire drills and techniques they can use on and off the range to accelerate their skills development.
This class is held at a private range near Jackson, MO. The address will be emailed to you once you have registered.
Course Length:
- 9 hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.)
- We will break for lunch from around noon to 1:00 p.m.
Course Prerequisites:
- Students must be very solid with their firearm safety, including while drawing, holstering, moving, transitioning targets, and reloading.
- Students will get the most out of the class if they have a general understanding of the fundamentals of shooting, such that they can consistently hit an 8-inch circle from 7 yards. This level of ability isn't mandatory (as long as you are safe), but this class does not focus on introducing students to the fundamentals of marksmanship. If you're not able to consistently hit an 8-inch circle from 7 yards, you may want to start with the Intro to Pistols class.
