Fall Outing: Walk Barnum Brook Trail at the VIC (Sat #27)
The Barnum Brook Loop Trail is an interpretive nature trail at the Paul Smiths’ Visitor Information Center (VIC) designed to be accessible to those who have difficulty walking. The trail surface is wooden boardwalks (with edge barriers and partial railings), pavement, gravel, or a natural (dirt, fallen leaf) surface.Note that this trail is for people who may be mobility challenged, but would not be considered as generally wheelchair accessible.
The trail meanders through second-growth forest to two overlooks with good views of Heron Marsh and St. Regis Mountain. The two overlooks provide excellent access to Heron Marsh, affording the opportunity to observe birds and marsh-dwelling mammals, such as the North American River Otter.
Afterwards, we will visit the Visitor Information Center, which often has interesting exhibitions of the work of local artists.
