Creative Writing (9th - 12th) TUESDAY
In this class, I hope to offer an apprenticeship in becoming a writer. Whether you prefer to write fiction or non-fiction, poetry or prose, you will leave this class with habits and tools that will set you up for becoming a person who writes. Through weekly writing practice, mentor texts, thoughtful discussion, and regular workshops, you will learn the habits that sustain a lifetime of creativity. We will study fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and personal narrative while reading excerpts from accomplished authors who write honestly about the creative process.
You will keep a daily writing notebook, practice observing the world around you, learn/reinforce the fundamentals of grammar and style, and, ultimately, compile a portfolio of polished work. Throughout the year, we will also explore what it means to create as people made in the image of God, pursuing truth, beauty, and goodness through words.
