Rock Talk on the Trail
Join St. Lawrence University Geology Professor, Dr. Alexander K. Stewart for a two-hour guided hike around Heart Lake at the Adirondack Loj, where we’ll explore the landscape through close observation of its geology, forests, and natural systems. This relaxed, conversational walk will connect what we see on the trail to the deeper story of the Adirondacks, from ancient bedrock and glacial shaping to the trees and ecosystems that define the area today. Suitable for all levels, the hike emphasizes curiosity, interpretation, and a deeper appreciation of the landscape surrounding Heart Lake.
This hike will take participants on approximately 1 mile of rolling trails which may be muddy. Please bring water and anything else you need to stay comfortable while hiking.
The Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) welcomes people of all backgrounds and is committed to fostering a safe space for everyone to learn.
Note: Registration, while not mandatory, is highly encouraged to enable the instructor to best prepare.
