Paper Reborn: Sculptural Vessels from Recycled Materials - Thursday 9:00 to 10:55 (Saundra Dymond)
PAPER REBORN: SCULPTURAL VESSELS FROM RECYCLED MAYERIALS
In this hands-on, eco-inspired art course, students explore the transformative power of discarded paper as they learn to create expressive vessels and sculptural forms entirely from recycled materials. What begins as yesterday's newspapers, packaging and scrap mail is reimagined into contemporary works of art through layering, molding, weaving and sculpting techniques that celebrate sustainability and creativity.
Participants are guided through the full artistic process - from pulping and hand-building to surface design and finishing - while discovering how humble materials can hold surprising strength, elegance and narrative depth. Each session blends technical instruction with playful experimentation, encouraging students to push the boundaries of form. texture and structure. Along the way, they gain insight into the environmental impact of art making and the beauty of giving new life to what would otherwise be waste.
Whether crafting delicate bowls, bold abstract sculptures or functional vessels with sculptural flair, students leave with a collection of unique, museum-worthy pieces and a renewed appreciation for the artistic potential hidden in everyday materials. No prior experience is required - just curiosity, imagination and a willingness to get your hands delightfully messy.
