Exploration into Glazing!

An Exploration in Glazing!

If you've already dipped your toes into the world of pottery and have taken a class or two, this is the perfect opportunity to dive deeper into the art of surface decoration.

This is a three-week experience, which will allow you to explore the various ways we can use glazes, oxides, slips, and underglaze.

With this class you’ll receive a bag of clay and you can use the last 3 weeks in our session to make and glaze your work during our open studio hrs.

For the first class, you can bring a few of your own pieces to glaze. We will also provide you with several bisqued pieces and a greenware, leather-hard tile.

The bisqued pieces that are not your own will enable you to venture past your comfort zone and learn how to use glaze in a new way.

The greenware tile is for slip and sgraffito, again, a great way to test this method for your own pots.

During the second class, you’ll see your pieces from the first class finished, and be able to use that information to do it all over again with more bisqued pieces. You’ll also glaze the sgraffito tile as you’d like.

The third class really drills it in. Using what you’ve learned during the first two rounds of glazing, you’ll use your newfound knowledge with one more round of bisqued pieces.

We know that, too often, we approach the glaze table with trepidation, holding a piece we’ve worked so hard on over the past couple of weeks.

The idea behind this class is to remove the preciousness of your own pieces and use the discarded bisqued pieces here at the studio to explore with less attachment.

  • Students with previous wheel-throwing experience (at least 2 prior courses)
  • Potters looking to explore glaze design

Includes:

  • 25 lbs of clay
  • 6 weeks Studio Access
