South Wales Three Peaks Challenge

We've all heard of the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge and the National 3 Peaks challenge. For this event, we'll explore a lesser known challenge route: The South Wales Three Peaks challenge around the Welsh town of Abergavenny.

Join us for a circular walk of about 20 miles and 5000 ft of ascent which crosses over three prominent peaks surrounding the town: Blorenge, Sugar Loaf and Skirrid.

The Blorenge stands at 561 meters (1,841 ft) with a broad, heather-clad plateau and involves a steep initial climb from the valley. Sugar Loaf reaches 596 meters (1,955 ft) with a distinct cone shape, providing a strenuous and steep mid-route ascent. Finally, Skirrid Fawr (The Skirrid) stands at 486 meters (1,594 ft) and marks the final, dramatic sharp ridge climb of the circuit.

As you might imagine, the route passes over some fabulous mountain terrain but never strays far from civilization. This is a tough walk and I would envisage it taking us around 12 hours to complete - so be prepared for a very early start from the centre of Abergavenny on Saturday! This is a self-book event, so unless you live locally you will need to book accommodation for Friday 18th and Saturday 19th September. When booking accommodation, bear in mind the early start on Saturday. I'll send out further details to those who book, closer to the time.
