Intimacy for the Stage - Instant Chemistry

Intimacy for the Stage was created and pioneered through Tonia’s direct experience as a fight director, movement choreographer, theatre professor, and performer.

Through her exercise, Instant Chemistry, she guides students through a progression of non-contact choreography that utilizes eye contact, presence, and empathy to find authentic connections for characters. This method offers a skill-based approach for performers to utilize when wanting to access real emotions in their partner work.

Instant Chemistry is used by hundreds of intimacy directors and coordinators as a tried and true method to navigating what can be an overwhelming and sometimes awkward experience.

Tonia teaches actors, directors, and choreographers that want to gain tools for safe exploration into harnessing genuine emotions for the sake of finding character connections. This workshop is appropriate for all levels of actors or performers wanting to explore a safer way of finding an authenticity to their craft.

Instant Chemistry is a consent-based exercise, and participation is welcomed, but if attendees prefer to observe, much can still be gained from watching the work. Just wear comfortable clothes that make you feel confident, and a notebook if you like to take notes.
