Master Threat & Risk Assessment the Way It’s Actually Done in the Field

You’ve been asked to perform a risk assessment, and you have no idea what to do. Maybe you’re responsible for security, are expected to defend your decisions, and you need a better method than the one you use now. This course will give you a tried-and-true methodology developed by Canada’s most credible national agencies for performing a TRA. You will be trained using adult learning methods and acquire a proven, structured approach to understanding and managing risk.

What You’ll Learn

This hands-on course walks you through the complete Harmonized Threat & Risk Assessment Methodology (HTRAM), including:

• An academic review of a spectrum of TRA methodologies in use today with a focus on the HTRAM
• Identifying and valuing critical assets (physical, informational and intangible)
• Assessing and scoring physical protective systems
• Identifying and assessing real-world threats, not hypothetical ones
• Identifying and analyzing vulnerabilities across integrated systems
• Applying qualitative and quantitative risk assessment methods
• Calculating true risk
• Delivering recommendations executives can actually use

During the training, each student will perform a TRA in the field and produce a report. The instructor will identify targets for students and groups of students to evaluate for a TRA. After the submission of a report, each student obtains a certificate of participation. Once students get to the real world, the instructor will make himself available for consultation as required.

You’ll leave this training with a repeatable, defensible process, not a course binder that will just collect dust on a shelf.

About the Instructor

This course is led by Len Babin, CPP, a former RCMP Superintendent and executive-level security leader with decades of experience across government and industry. He has served as Director of Security for the Alberta Electric System Operator and has led or contributed to Threat & Risk Assessments for organizations including the Alberta power grid, Supreme Court of Canada, Parliament of Canada, major banks, extraction companies internationally, and national defence projects. He is the founder and principal at Primoris Associates Inc.

His work spans multi-billion-dollar infrastructure initiatives, high-security government facilities, and international advisory roles, including security design and public security reform projects abroad. He is board-certified in security management (ASIS CPP) and brings deep, practical expertise in governance, critical infrastructure protection, and integrated physical and IT security.

In short, this is instruction from someone who has applied HTRAM where the stakes are real, not theoretical.
