Obeya Coach

Guide organisations to visual management excellence

The Obeya Coach accreditation is the highest level in the Obeya certification curriculum and the only one that licenses you to train others. As a Certified Obeya Coach you assess how Obeyas are working across an organisation, advise the leadership behind them, and develop the Builders and Hosts who run them.

Read this first. Obeya Coach is different from every other course on this roster in three ways, and each one matters before you book.

  1. It is a six-week programme, not a class. Three course days bracket a live assignment at a company that is not your own.
  2. There is no exam. You are assessed on the work you produce.
  3. Keeping the accreditation costs €500 per year, invoiced to you directly by the Obeya Association. It is not included in the course price. Full detail under What it costs after the course below.

Is this for you?

You will get the most from this programme if you are:

  • An experienced Obeya practitioner holding both Builder and Host, with at least two years of building and hosting behind you
  • An internal change leader guiding several Obeyas
  • An Agile or Lean coach developing Obeya practitioners
  • A consultant implementing and assessing Obeya across organisations
  • Ready to train, mentor and coach other Obeya professionals

This is probably not for you if you want to deepen your own practice rather than develop other people’s. Builder and Host do that, and cost far less.

What’s in your way right now

  • Every Obeya in your organisation is developing differently and you cannot tell where to intervene
  • You are asked to judge whether a room is any good, and you have no instrument beyond your own taste
  • Builders and Hosts come to you for help and you coach by instinct
  • You want to deliver Obeya training and have no licence to do it

Just imagine

Walking into an Obeya you have never seen, spending ninety minutes there, and telling that organisation something about itself that it did not know. Handing a leadership team a maturity assessment they trust because you can show your reasoning. Training your own Builders and Hosts under your own name.

What you’ll be able to do

  • Assess the maturity of any Obeya using the Obeya Maturity Scan as an analytical instrument
  • Perform structured Obeya scans and defend your scoring to peers
  • Turn observations and interviews into advice a management team will act on
  • Coach Builders and Hosts without taking ownership away from them
  • Evaluate practitioner skills and behaviours using the Association’s instruments
  • Teach the official Obeya Builder and Host material

What happens in the programme

Course day 1. The Coach role. Train-the-trainer on the Builder and Host material. The Obeya Maturity Scan, the site visit and the advice report. You are paired with a buddy.

Weeks two to five. You attend a live meeting in a real Obeya at a case company outside your own organisation. You observe the room and the conversation, then interview two participants for about thirty minutes each, at least one of them a decision-maker. Online intervision sessions with your cohort calibrate what a maturity level looks like in practice. You complete the Maturity Scan and draft an advice report covering current maturity, a target ambition per quadrant or principle, and what the organisation would have to do to reach it. Drafts go to your trainer before the final days.

Course days 2 and 3. You present your case and walk the group through your assessment reasoning, including where you doubted your own scores. The group calibrates. You get one more pass at your scan and report before it goes to the case company. Day three closes with peer feedback and graduation.

The facts

What it costs after the course

€500 per year, excluding VAT, invoiced to you separately by the Obeya Association. This is not included in the course price and DEEPRED does not receive any part of it.

Your Certified Obeya Coach accreditation stays valid only while you hold an active Obeya Coach Licence. The Obeya Association bills you for this directly, on its own invoice, once you are accredited. It is a recurring annual cost for as long as you want to hold the accreditation.

The licence gives you platform access, monthly masterclasses, iObeya access, and the Obeya Coach network.

This is the main way Obeya Coach differs commercially from the Scrum.org certifications on this roster, which you pay for once and hold for life. Budget for it before you book. If the recurring cost does not work for you, say so now rather than after accreditation.

One more thing worth knowing. Accreditation licenses you to train people as Obeya Builders and Hosts. Delivering official Obeya Association Builder and Host training is a separate matter and requires an arrangement with a Training Partner. Ask us and we will explain where the line sits.

Your next step

Talk to us before you book. Two things need checking: whether you meet the entry requirements, and whether you have a case company lined up. Finding an organisation willing to let you observe a meeting and interview a decision-maker takes longer than most people expect, and the programme does not work without one. Start that conversation early and we will help.
