PAL-E

Leading with agility

Professional Agile Leadership Essentials is a two-day class from Scrum.org for the people who set the conditions teams work in. Agility rarely fails at team level. It fails at the level above, where budgets, metrics and decision rights live. This class gives you the understanding and the tools to change that. You leave with a free attempt at the PAL I assessment.

Is this for you?

You will get the most from this class if you are:

  • A manager or executive leading Agile teams
  • A department head overseeing an Agile transformation
  • A project or programme manager whose world is changing shape
  • A leader who wants to support Scrum Teams without taking over

This is probably not for you if you are looking for an introduction to Scrum. This class assumes you have met it before.

What’s in your way right now

  • Your teams work Agile and your management practices quietly undo it
  • You are told to stop commanding and controlling, and nobody has told you what to do instead
  • Your metrics drive the behaviour you say you do not want
  • Every transformation update sounds positive and nothing measurable has changed

Just imagine

Walking into your next quarterly review with measures that tell you something true. Watching a team make a call you would have made, faster than you would have made it, without asking permission. Knowing exactly which of your own habits to drop first.

What you’ll be able to do

  • Support and enable Agile teams without reducing their autonomy
  • Create the organisational conditions where agility survives contact with reality
  • Balance management and leadership rather than choosing one
  • Evaluate how your metrics shape behaviour, and change the ones that work against you
  • Drive change that outlasts your attention

What happens in the class

Two days across five themes: why agility matters, developing people, how leaders grow agility, measuring agility, and the specific challenges an Agile leader faces. You work with Evidence-Based Management metric cards, run a self-management maturity exercise, and test your own values against your team’s.
